Mercedes Bent is a co-founder and general partner at Premise VC, an early-stage venture firm. She decides pacing and used to build the analysis in Google Sheets and Excel, one step removed from the ledger where commitments and capital calls come from. The analysis she builds now runs on figures straight from Hanover Park, her book of record.
Challenge
Mid-quarter, with the fund still actively deploying, Bent wanted to know how deployment was tracking against capital commitments and against the horizon she is investing over. The pacing analysis she had built was a quarter old, and she needed a current one.
The data was already there
Hanover Park is Premise's book of record, so commitments by vehicle, every capital call against them and the cost in each position are maintained rather than assembled on request. Hanover Park's MCP server exposes those figures to Claude as read-only tools. The pace she intends to set and the horizon she is working against are her judgment, and Claude builds the analysis on top of them.
“Being able to use my daily tools like Claude Cowork to do pacing analysis directly in Claude’s UI eliminated switching costs and increased the speed I was able to process decisions around capital activity. Hanover Park’s MCP made this possible - now I can run accurate financial analysis in the same place I commit pull requests.” - Mercedes Bent, Co-Founder & General Partner, Premise VC

The model above uses illustrative figures. The amounts, dates and company names are made-up examples and are not Premise's data.
Results: pacing in one question
There is no hunting for the figures and no waiting on a reporting date. One question against the Hanover Park book gives her the pacing picture as it stands that day, so she can make the next deployment call against where the fund actually is.
